Congratulations on a really great program. I went through basic training in July of 1961..... Yep, I'm really that old. I am very proud of my service and the time I was in the Air Force, even the time in Vietnam. I talk to my wife about my experiences in the service and how I credit my recruiter with leading me to the Air Force. My recruiter met with myself, and my friend as we were just out of high school and looking for future career possibilities Tsgt. Edward J. Steakin led us and informed us of all the pros and cons about joining the military and if it would be right for us. After talking to Sgt. Steakin, we felt like he was the only recruiter we had talked to from the other service branches that actually cared about if he could help us with such a big decision at the ripe old age of 18 years old. He did, and I have never regretted it. I hope all the future recruiters will take the advice from Sgt McDuffie and always speak with their trainees as personally and helpful as they can. It will benefit both the recruiter, and the Air Force for many years to come.

I graduated BMT in January 1976. At the time I was 22 years old and the mind games didn't seem so serious. Some of the younger airmen (17 to 18) would literally cry themselves to sleep after lights out. This was their first time to be away from their mommy. Within the 1st week, five airmen quit. When we were allowed to call home after 10 days into training, I could hear some of them crying as soon as they heard their mom's voice.

Man idk why this makes me miss basic days. I went in about a month after these trainees and despite it being hard, i really enjoyed it and it gave me the discipline i needed at a hard time in my life. Those airman were truly my family through those 8.5 weeks. Also, I got the privilege to be taught by some of these MTI’s. Im now a disabled vet, so its weird feeling nostalgic about something most people hated, but idk. Great video.

Ive heard that having chronic depression is an automatic disqualifyer for any military service. I myself have chronic depression and take a very minuscule amount of lexapro to get that part of my brain working again. This August, I am set to start nursing school where i plan to graduate in May of 2026 and become RN in the ICU. I plan to then work for my BSN and commision as an officer to become a flight nurse with (conveniently) the 122ndFW in Fort Wayne. Will my chronic depression prevent this goal from happening? I do apologize for the wordy message, and i hope i am clear in my query. Thanks for your time and service.

Your recruiters are lacking. After getting out of the Army National Guard . I started the paperwork for the Airforce reserves . My recruiter said he'd be glad to help .After sending me to meps and getting all my paperwork done and doctor's appointments. Now, he doesn't pick up the phone or answer my texts. It's been 3 months since i spoke to him.
